2014 Mini Sessions

Hello again!

My fingers have finally started to dethaw from this FREEEEEZZZING winter we have had!!!  I have pretty much been in hibernation until now 🙂  Holy moly, if you have been around me much you know that I was born to live on an island in the WARM temperatures, well that’s the dream anyway LOL.  These past two months have seriously been miserable in my book MINUS all the little newborn CUTIES that have come to my warm and cozy studio to cuddle and play!  I can’t wait to watch them grow this year!

This Fall was overwhelmingly wonderful and soooo busy!  It was my pleasure to meet & photograph so many new faces and of course to see all my previous years clients back again!  I am at a loss for words to tell you how much you all mean to me.  I LOVE my job so much and I hope to see you all again this year too!!!  I am so excited to tell you about my plans for this year 🙂

My first mini session this year is going to be March 29, 2014 and the theme will be “Hop Into Spring” and my brand new baby bunnies will be involved!  They are so adorable I just can’t wait!  I love Spring almost as much as I love summer!  It is just breathtaking watching everything in bloom 🙂   I have not decided on a location as of yet bc I am waiting for the grasses and the trees to liven up.  Fingers crossed the cold is moving out!

After Easter, the next mini session will be held on April 19,2014 and the theme will be “Tea Party with Mommy”.  I am super excited about this!  Imagine cake, cookies, tea, tulle, flowers and lace 🙂

On April 26, 2014 from 9-4, I will be doing minis indoors (Theme TBA) at Heritage Church of Christ at the Heritage Annual Craft Show.  Its a HUGE event and TONS of great vendors!

Following those I plan to have:

“Spring Family Minis” on May 17, 2014

“My Superhero Dad” on May 31, 2014

“Star Spangled Cuties” on  June 21,  2014

“Just Because” on September 13, 2014

“Too Cute To Spook” on October 11, 2014

“Fall Family Minis” on November 8th & 15th, 2014

“I Believe” on December 6th, 2014

Struggling with what to wear?

Looking to get family portraits for the holidays? A lot of clients have been asking the biggest question… What should we wear!!!!

I’ve gathered some of the best advice and want to share some of my tips about what you should (and shouldn’t) don the next time you’re getting your picture taken, and Pinterest has some lovely links that show just how well a coordinated wardrobe can enhance your final image.

1) Matchy-matchy
Unless you’re going for a specific theme, it’s important to coordinate your outfits without your group all wearing the exact same thing. All plaid or all white can be painfully overpowering in your final image. Give the idea a more modern spin by picking two to three colors that complement each other, or wear different shades of the same color. Spice it up with a favorite accent color, like red, and have everyone wear just a small touch of that. Instant smiles!

Finally, try to avoid having just one person wear a completely different color, especially when that color is very bright or in stark contrast to the rest of the family. This draws the attention just to that person instead of unifying the group. Of course this is fine if that’s the idea you’re going for.

2) Something out of place
It’s important to factor in your shoot location when planning your outfit. You’ll show up very differently when photographed against a plain neutral backdrop than when you’re taking photos in a riotously bright autumn forest!

And let’s not forget about patterns: If you’re wearing plaid or stripes when photographed against a brick wall, you’ll see more lines than a zebra in jail! The result? No one will be able to find your face.

Holiday tip: If you’ve already picked out your holiday card, try planning your outfit around the colors in that design.

3) Loose, baggy clothing
Remember, these photos will be a reminder to your loved ones what you look like when they can’t be with you! Fitted clothes look much more polished and flattering than loose clothes, which can just make you appear boxy. Check the fit of jackets, sweaters or collared shirts, and be sure that the collar won’t obscure your face when you sit down and that the shoulders won’t bunch up.

4) Something you’ve never worn before
We’re all about shopping, but don’t let the photo shoot be the first time you’re wearing new duds! You’ll want to feel comfortable and confident, and if you’re unsure of how that skirt will act when you’re focused on your poses, it’s best to wait until you don’t have professional photographic proof.

Reach for your favorite outfit, the one that makes you walk taller and feel like you can conquer the world!

5) Just one thing
Think about the types of poses you may do, and your location – You may not want to sit on the ground in a miniskirt or walk across the park in heels. Finally, don’t forget to pack accessories like belts, shoes and hats that can turn a casual outfit into something classy.

Click my link/tab above on what to wear and it will lead you to some of my favorite poses and clothing ideas.

In conclusion…..
Be comfortable, and be confident! This can make all the difference between an uncomfortable photo shoot and a beautiful experience with photos you’ll cherish for years.

I look forward to capturing your memories!!! Cya very soon!

Heirlooms

Many photographers are now offering high-resolution, digital files to their clients and nothing else. Digital files are great to have for archiving purposes, to share with friends and family on the web, and to reprint from in the future. If you do choose to make prints on your own, it’s important to ask your photographer for their printing lab recommendations. Different labs vary greatly in printing quality, and while the drugstore down the road may be convenient, it’s probably NOT the best choice for your treasured photographs. You may even want an extra copy to give as a gift, because when they look this cute, it’s hard to keep it for just yourself!

Ask five photographers about their opinion on selling digital files, & you will probably get five philosophies on why they do, or don’t, offer them.  One reason photographers have a hard time selling digital files is because they are afraid that the files will simply collect dust on someone’s desk, under a pile of papers with long to-do lists.   On these to-do lists will probably include a bullet point for “print out photos from disc!” We all know how busy life can get, especially with kids, so chances are… the majority of people simply hold onto the disc, & the photos never see the light of day.

I love to offer digital files with my sessions at a rate that is reasonable to everyone involved, but I also love to offer ideas on ways to get those digital files seen.

While the digital files are nice, the real beauty is the album. This is the kind of product that isn’t just a product. It becomes a family heirloom, a piece of art. It will passed down and these moments will be remembered forever. Printed on thick, photographic pages, these albums will last for years and are a great way to showcase your portraits. I use specialty companies that only serve photographers, and they are beyond compare. Made of the highest quality materials (and sometimes even made by hand), these albums are unique and different from anything you could find at a local store.

Do it yourself kinda person?  I understand, meet Blurb Books. I love their simple, modern approach to a professional looking book!

So take your disc from your session, & even if you have writer’s block, you can create full-page wordless pieces of art… people will thumb through them forever!

Updated Website!

So as much as I loved my last site it wouldn’t always function perfectly for everyone so I have upgraded to sleek and modern! I hope you love it as much as I do!

The photo display is AMAZING!
